Who we are
Salkantay.org (“Salkantay Trek”, “we”) is operated by Dual Source Enterprises Inc., trading as Inca Trail Reservations, a California Seller of Travel (CST# 2085372-40) with offices in Cusco and Arequipa, Peru. This policy covers salkantay.org and the booking pages it links to. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
What we collect
When you enquire (the contact form, “check availability” or the departures-by-email form): your name, email address, any phone or WhatsApp number you give, your preferred trek and dates, group size and your message.
When you book: for each traveller, the details the trek legally requires — full name as on the passport, passport number, nationality, date of birth and gender — plus contact details, dietary needs and anything else you tell us about the trip.
When you pay: card and PayPal payments are entered in PayPal’s own secure fields. Card numbers go to PayPal, not to us; we receive the payment result and a transaction reference.
How you found us: if you arrive from an advert or a campaign link, the page notes the campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source or an ad click ID), the referring page, the page you landed on and whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer. This is sent with an enquiry so we know which campaigns bring trekkers. If you start choosing a departure and leave without sending the form, the trek and date you picked may be recorded so that a later enquiry is not counted twice.
How we use it
- To answer your questions and send the prices and departures you asked for.
- To book your trek: Machu Picchu entrance tickets, trains, hotels and campsites are issued in each traveller’s name.
- To take payment and keep the accounting and tax records the law requires.
- To contact you about your trip before and after it.
- To see which pages and campaigns work, so we can improve the site.
We only send news or offers if you ask for them, and every such email carries a way to stop them.
Who we share it with
Only with the people who deliver the trip and the services that run this site:
- Trip providers — Peru’s Ministry of Culture (Machu Picchu tickets), the train operators, hotels and our trek staff receive the traveller details they need to issue tickets and run your departure.
- PayPal, which processes payments under its own privacy policy.
- Our hosting and email providers, which store and send our data on our behalf.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.
Enquiries and bookings are stored on the systems of Inca Trail Reservations, the company that operates this site.
Cookies and browser storage
Salkantay.org runs no analytics or advertising trackers. Two things are stored in your browser, both only to make the site work:
- The trek date, promo code and referring page you chose on the availability calendar, so the booking pages can pick them up (browser local storage).
- The campaign details described above, kept only until you close the tab (session storage).
The booking pages set a session cookie to keep your booking together between steps; it expires when you close the browser. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as any web request does. Links to PayPal, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and WhatsApp take you to those services, whose own policies apply there.
Our social media accounts
We publish our own photos and trek information to our accounts on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube, sometimes through those platforms’ publishing tools. Those tools only post to and read our own accounts. We do not collect information about other people’s accounts, boards or pins.
Security and retention
Only staff who handle your booking can see your details, and the site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. We keep booking records for as long as accounting and tax law requires. Enquiries that never become a booking are kept only as long as they are useful for answering you.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it or delete it, or stop sending you email, by writing to info@incatrailreservations.com. We answer within 30 days. We may need to keep some booking records where the law requires it, and we will tell you if so. Depending on where you live (for example in California or the European Union) you may have further rights under local law, and you can exercise them the same way.
Children
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. When a family books, a parent or guardian gives the children’s traveller details, and we use them only to book the trip.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top.
